Nightrage: A new disease is born
31/03/07 || Lord K Philipson
I know what the fucken problem is… It doesn’t matter that Nightrage’s shit is executed top-notch. Nor that they have some catchy riffing going on every now and then. And yes, ofcourse the mandatory clean vocal choruses are there as well as some overly triggered drums. You know, the formula that bands use to gain some undeserved “success” and recognition. The latest way of “metal”. You know the style by now… And here’s the mentioned problem:
I just can’t fucken get into it.
Nightrage’s got absolutely no identity of their own. These Swedes/Greek are doing the same American half-metal done by almost each and every fucken band these days, and this kind of music literally makes me wanna rip my penis off and mail it to them with a note saying “Thanx for the album, you can now blow me”.
Nightrage offers absolutely nothing to the already crowded bullshit metal field. Sure, obviously talented, obviously nice guys (we did book them for Club Aska as a part of a package a while back) and obviously plain and utterly boring. I just can’t fucken get into 99% of all the bands in this genre.
One thing that pops up in my mind all the time when I hear this is “Killswitch Engage”. Exactly everyone on this planet knows that’s not the best compliment one can hand out to a band. “A new disease is born” is a fitting title for an album of this style. The title track ends this album by the way. A 3 minute acoustic and unnecessary instrumental sleeping pill. Wow. Just what this disc needed. Gotta hand it to them though, the production values are great, and it helps a little in making this listenable.
To wrap this burrito up:
Competent, for sure. but way more boring than it has to be. Do fucken something about it. You can find some useful stuff at Identity’R‘Us. They will help you get started.
3,5/10.
